Caffeine Is Magic
63
Morning is a tired, blurry place.
Can't sit up,
don't want to get up,
I love my bed,
don't want to leave it.
The smell of coffee helps me
to slide out of my warm haven,
I move towards it.
It coaxes me,
to the daytime land downstairs.
Espresso tastes raw
on my lips,
silky in my mouth
sliding down my throat.
Heaven in a tiny cup.
Caffeine's inside me now,
I can feel its presence.
Possessing me.
I'm in control,
but is this feeling real?
A slave to caffeine,
I can do anything,
I am confident and powerful.
But it comes at a price.
Must have more caffeine.
It occurred to me this morning that caffeine is magic.
But magic can be good or evil.
Black tea,
more tea,
must quench that thirst.
So much energy now,
I am strong.
Night is long, dark and exciting.
Enticing, full of possibilities.
I don't want to sleep,
inspiration is burning me.
Must create, must write, must do everything.
Early morning I'm still up.
Ideas are getting lazy,
feeling shaky, sick and panicky.
Cheated,
but I can't sleep, sleep is faraway.
Morning is a foreign land,
strange and scary, hostile.
Full of paranoia.
I feel like sleeping, so tired now,
oh the irony.
Coffee is calling,
it will save me!
I listen to its promises,
its heaven-scent, aroma.
The devil in my cup.

Wow not a bad effort here in describing an addiction that really does have a greater hold on most of us than Strawberries and cream! Thanks for reminding me to put the jug on again! Take care..
Ahhh. . . coffee and tea! I could not go through my day without them.
Beautiful and fun poem. Well done!
Thank you!
This is awesome! It describes me so perfectly! I do love my bed and the thought of a lovely, hot cup of strong coffee is just the thing to get me moving - especially on cold winter mornings. But as much as I love coffee, your poem also expresses, wonderfully and vividly, the down side of caffeine.
I loved this. Bookmarked as a favourite + voted up awesome!
Hot chocolate is another of my favourites...maybe next time you write an ode to this sweet beverage from heaven...beautiful poem, thanks for sharing:)
Oh yes...coffee! Love it..."need" it...want it! A dear friend bought me Starbucks Christmas Blend for a gift. Just opened it and brewed my first pot. Heaven!
Great poem! It is especially nice for me because I read it as I was having a cup of freshly ground and brewed cup of coffee --my first for the day.
Hi, I could taste that coffee! lol! but I do agree, too much can make you shaky! I tend to drink a nice cup of tea first thing, then hit the coffee later, thank goodness for those two, I would never get up early without them!
Coffee is Magical! Love the article Moon Daisy. Without my cup of magic every morning, I don't know how I would function.
Dear Moon Daisy ~ this poem is an excellent expose on the physical and emotional effects of coffee and its active ingredient caffeine in the body. Blessings, Debby
Dear Moon ~ I have also written hubs on coffee and even one on spider that might be of interest. Your talent to write the essence of a substance is commendable. Blessings, Debby
Beautiful Poem - I can tell Coffee is one of your passions.
Thanks.
Beautiful. I didn't realize how much I really enjoy drinking coffee until I read this. I identified with your experience. Great Hub!
Hey, I'm a coffee lover too so this poem really speaks to me! However, I have been able to keep the love going without getting to addiction. I have one glorious cup of coffee a day - hot, black and sweet - then I'm good for the rest of the day!
The title of this hub caught my eye. I also love my caffeine, I always say I am going to cut back but I never do.
Great poem...spreading the magic of caffeine...
Very true.. coffee helps a lot on everyday's routine.
I must agree. Without coffee the pyramids would never have been pyramided. Without a shot of caffeine the Eiffel Tower would likely be the Eiffel Inconsequential. It is coffee makes the world go-round, not money, and the only ones to profit from it's lack would be the people who sell mattresses, because that is where half the world would be all day without the allure of the caffeine kick that beckons us to arise from our beds and face the world that awaits us on the other side of the exit-door of Starbucks.
Obviously I've had too much coffee today. ;)
